If you have a vehicle in the parade, please use this map to determine the best way to get to your line-up position. Generally speaking, if you are lined up on Green Street, you should enter from San Antonio, St. Joseph, or College Street. If you are lined up on Forrest Street, then you should enter from McLeod Street. All the streets will be crowded and there will not be room to turn around. The streets will be one-way for the parade, so please travel in the correct direction.

If you will be dropping off someone in the parade, please do not travel down the streets where the line-up will be – drop them off a block or so from those streets. The person in charge of that entry should designate a drop-off point which is not on Green or Forrest Streets.

Green denotes approximate location of line-up numbers. These locations may change depending on the length of the entries. For exact line-up locations, look for numbers written on duct tape stuck to the street curb.

To line up your entry, come in from San Antonio Street, St. Paul St., College Street, Forrest Street, or the far end of Green Street (not from Green & Hardy).

Yellow arrows show the directions to come in from to get to your line-up spots.

Do not attempt to come onto Green Street from Hardy Street, this will be one-way going the other direction! Also, Green St. will be very crowded, do not travel on this street unless that is your line-up location.

Please note that the parking lot by the old gym is reserved for the band buses and band members!

Agreement

Please read carefully.

By signing the entry form and paying the entry fee, you agree to the following terms:

• The deadline for the entry form and money to be in our hands is November 27, 2009. No entries will be allowed after that date!

• You may not have a Santa Claus in your entry.

• Your entry will have strictly a Christmas theme and will be in accordance with the theme set forth by the Hattiesburg Jaycees. No political themes are allowed and no decorations or costumes are allowed which are not in good taste. If you have any questions about this, it must be brought up before the day of the parade. If the Hattiesburg Jaycees feel your entry violates this rule, you will not be allowed to participate, and you forfeit your entry fee.

• One or more adults must be in charge of each entry. The “first person in charge” as named in the entry form will inform all participants in your entry as to your entry number, and will tell everyone where to meet to line up. Please also tell each participant the name of the organization which you listed on the entry form.

• You are responsible to obtain your entry number by checking the website at

www.hattiesburgjaycees.org, where it will be listed. You are responsible to tell each participant in your entry what the entry number is. In other words, everyone in your entry must know the entry number before showing up for the parade. Every year we have 1000 people asking us where they’re supposed to be, it would be better for everyone if they knew this ahead of time.

• You are responsible for putting your entry number on your vehicle(s) if you want your entry to be judged. If you do not have an entry number readable by the judges, it will not be judged. You will receive a decal with your entry number on it when you check in for line up.

• For safety, do not allow anyone in or on a vehicle to get on or off that vehicle once the parade has gotten underway. If any prizes are thrown during the parade, make sure it is thrown far enough away from the vehicle so that spectators don’t get close to a vehicle to retrieve it.

All the Jaycees working the parade are volunteers and as such are not paid by providing this service.

Please help us by being prepared and preparing everyone who is in your entry. This is a time to celebrate Christmas, have a good time, and show all the spectators a good time.

One of the Hattiesburg Jaycees’ oldest projects is the Christmas Parade. As a service to the community, we have sponsored and coordinated this event for over 30 years.

A Fairy Tale Christmas

2009 Parade Information:

* Date: Saturday, December 5th, 2009

* Start Time: 1:00pm

* Line-up Time: 11:30 am

* Theme: A Fairy Tale Christmas

* Entry Fee: $20.00. One entry fee = 2 car max per entry/grouping. $10 for each additional car.

* Deadline for entry: November 27th, 2009 Absolutely no exceptions!

* Look for your entry number on this website on December 3rd, 2009

In the parade?

Parade Rules:

* No Santa Clauses allowed! There is only one Santa Claus, and he has already been contacted by the Hattiesburg Jaycees.

* No politically motivated floats! The parade is strictly about Christmas, and any entry that strays from this purpose will not be allowed.

* No decorations or costumes which are in bad taste, sexually suggestive or explicit, or otherwise not in the spirit of Christmas. This is a family-oriented event, primarily for the children of our community, and entries that do not conform to that standard will be removed from the line-up.

* For judging purposes, your entry must follow the parade theme. If your entry does not conform to the theme, it will not be judged.

* You must stay in the order given to you by the parade chairman. The order will not be changed on parade day.

* For judging purposes, attach your line-up number on the passenger’s side of the first vehicle in your group. The Hattiesburg Jaycees will provide you a number decal at check in.

* Each entry must have or create a poster, sign, or banner to represent who they are and what their story theme is. This allows the Judges and the public to determine how well the entry fits with the parade theme. This poster, sign, or banner can be attached to the float or car, or may be carried by a member of your group. The poster, sign, or banner, must be legible and big enough for viewers to read or understand.

* City ordinances do not allow the throwing of candy

* Any performance that stops the parade must be limited to 30 seconds. The police will enforce this to keep the parade moving!

* Absolutely no entries will be allowed without paying! No entries will be allowed to register or pay the day of the parade. Deadline for registration is November 27, 2009.

* Entries must contact the chairman the day before the parade to get line-up positions or check this link for your position. Every entry will be assigned a number – it is your responsibility to get this number from us. Also, as the person in charge of your entry, it is your responsibility to inform everyone in your entry as to what number they are and where to meet you to line up.

* Trophies will be awarded and winners will be notified within a few days after the parade. Winners will also be posted here.

* For the safety of everyone, an adult must supervise all children who may be in your entry. No entry will be allowed to start the parade unless there is a supervising adult present. Make sure children do not get on or off of vehicles until it has come to a complete stop.

* Dance, song, language, attire, float, etc… must not contain vulgar or indecent matter. Please help us to keep the parade a family oriented event.
